SECTION ~ 2 Moving Wisdom
· How Well Should You Pack And Wrap? In all seriousness, and with all due respect for the hardworking people in the moving business, for the sake of your possessions it would be wise for you to imagine the moving company employees as a bunch of GORILLAS. Realistically, it would be careless to assume otherwise, imagining they’ll always have your particular mind-set and the utmost concern for all your valuable and fragile items. During the hustle and bustle of moving day, with only so much time to load the truck, it is more than likely, some of the bold FRAGILE labeling will be ignored. This is often the case when there is less than the ideal amount of supervision of the workers, barring the possibility you will move, stack and transport most of those delicate boxes yourself. Accidents happen, even with the most conscientious mover, one who makes all the effort to be careful. So, it would be to your advantage if you imagine the worst while packing boxes, and provide extra external wrapping protection on furniture. When I packed up my own house, I felt it was mainly my responsibility to insure their protection during transport.
1. Helpful Hint / Protect Your “Feet” and “Noses”- Where there are SHARP CORNERS and furniture with LEVELING “FEET” apply EXTRA cushioning protection on all the corners before the final wrapping, and remove all the furniture “feet,” domes, and casters whenever possible. After the fact, I discovered they bend or brake off when the movers drop too much weight onto one point (“foot”). These leveling feet and casters are NOT necessary for transport, but essential for maintaining stability and ease of movement WITHIN the HOME. The “Bagman” suggests: Try to keep disassembled pieces all together for a quicker and easier reassembly, by placing the loose parts into a ZIP-LOC bag, and secure it to, or place inside the respective piece of furniture.

About the Author ~ Xavier has designed home and office interiors for over twenty years, often employed by moving companies as a summer job while in college. His wide range of design, construction and home improvement experience included multiple projects designing storage and shipping departments within commercial interiors, and closet and storage areas for private homes. There were other occasions he both designed and installed the closet storage systems. Moving eleven times before marriage, Xavier has also moved the contents of his family home, six more times. So naturally, all the MOVING WISDOM contained in this book stems from the saying, “Necessity is the mother of invention.” As a career problem solver and creative thinker, if it has to do with moving, ORGANIZATION should be Xavier’s middle name. Currently working as an interior design consultant, Xavier specializes in STAGING homes on the real estate market to improve their salability. This fast paced home design marketing is achieved through various means such as: rearranging furniture, redecoration, reducing clutter, minor renovations, and any repairs as needed. http://www.designhousecalls.com/ Email: JoyOfMoving@gmail.com
